Blacktop Moon: Tunes
Here She Comes Again
(Blacktop Moon)
What are you addicted to? What have you tried to put behind you, pretending you had it handled, only to have the need - the desire, appear in the shadows again, taunting you like a dark mistress. And you think, oh, no . . . here she comes again . . .
(The first time I played this for Theresa, she looked at me afterward and asked, "Did you just say hot monkey breath?")
Here She Comes Again
Jim Brumm 12-05
Twelve o’clock Friday
Water back and whiskey neat
Sounds of the damned and the lost
Drifting into the bar from the street
This dark smoky corner
Trying to hide this human debris
Here she comes again
Lord have mercy on me
Tell me please
When will life let me be
What in the world does a man have to do
To set himself free
Have another smoke
Have another pour
Staring at the stains on the barroom floor
Here she comes again
Lord have mercy on me
Red quarter-moon looking down on the hungry streets
The old man shaking his head at everything he sees
A runaway train and I’m tied to the track
With hot monkey breath making time on my back
Twelve o’clock Friday
It’s such a sight to see
Am I dead or alive
Well it’s a matter of degree
So many backs against so many walls
Nickel-plated voices speaking for us all
Here she comes again
Lord have mercy on me
Red quarter-moon looking down on the hungry streets
The old man shaking his head at everything he sees
A runaway train and I’m tied to the track
With hot monkey breath making time on my back
Twelve o’clock Friday
Water back and whiskey neat
There’s a strange kind of freedom
That comes in admitting defeat
This dark smoky corner
Is the only friend that I see
Here she comes again
Lord have mercy on me
Here she comes again
Lord have mercy on me
